Information for Students Registered for Classes Meeting at Smith College
v All GCC classes held at Smith College will be located in Seelye Hall.
v Room assignments will be posted on the first floor of Seelye Hall the first night of classes and staff will be available to assist you.
v Classes begin Tuesday, January 29, 2013 and Thursday, January 31, 2012.
v Last two weeks of classes: It will be necessary for us to relocate your classes during the last two weeks of classes. Classes meeting between May 2nd and May 16th will meet at Northampton High School. The on-site coordinator will provide a reminder to all students closer to the date with additional information about parking and classroom space at Northampton High School.
v On-Site Coordinator: GCC provides an on-site coordinator at the Smith campus nightly. This person will be available to students prior to and during class at a table in the first floor hall of Seelye Hall. Additionally, they can be reached by telephone at (413) 834-1066. This is a GCC cell phone with voice mail so you can leave messages if needed. Please see the coordinator for any questions or issues. The computer technicians that are in the basement are for Smith students only so unless a real emergency arises, please do not ask them for assistance.
v Please keep in mind that we are guests of Smith College. GCC students attending classes at Smith College are expected to abide by the same Standards of Behavior and Code of Conduct as students on the main campus. At no time should students or faculty approach the Smith computer technicians in the basement. They are there for Smith students only. Please find the site supervisor to report any issues or ask questions about the computers.
v If you need academic accommodations (i.e. note taking support, specialized furniture, proctoring of exams, etc.) that have been authorized and coordinated by the Disabilities Services Office at GCC, please be sure to present this information/request to your instructor as soon as possible. Please create and maintain contact with Anna Berry in the Office of Disability Services at GCC at (413) 775-1812 (V/TTY dial 711).
¨ Purchasing textbooks:
v Option 1 – Order textbooks online from the GCC Bookstore at http://www.greenfield.Bkstr.com
Textbooks are available as soon as orders are received from instructors even if we do not have them in stock. They may be filled from another site if we do not have them in stock at the time you place your order. You can choose to have them shipped to your home or reserve for pick up at the GCC College Store. These can be picked up during regular store hours.
v Option 2 – Come to the GCC College Store ~ Extended Spring 2013 Hours:
January 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st 9:00am – 6:30pm
Regular Spring 2013 store hours are Monday – Thursday 9:00am – 5:00pm and Fridays 9:00am -4:00pm
The last day to return books for the Spring 2013 term is February 8th with your register receipt and proof of course drop or change.
v The Smith College Library is available for your use; however, computer labs are NOT available. Copy machines are located in the Library or at Kinko’s. There is a fee for copying.
v Food and beverages in the classroom are not permitted. However, if you have a medical concern that requires you to eat or drink during class time, please notify your instructor. You may need to provide documentation of your need to your instructor.
v Class Cancellations: In the event that classes need to be cancelled for any reason during the semester announcements are made on local radio stations and information can be accessed through the GCC weather line at (413) 775-1010. Information regarding evening classes is available after 4:00 pm. Please note that classes held atSmithCollege follow the GCC cancellation policy.
v Parking at Smith College: You may park in any parking lot at Smith College in the white lined spaces. During the winter months those spaces may be difficult to determine so we encourage you to use the parking garage on West Street (Route 66) just beyond the Forbes Library on your left. No parking is allowed on the first floor of the garage; parking is free on all other levels. Please note that Smith college security personnel will ticket everyone who is inappropriately parked, including spaces reserved for the handicapped orSmithCollege personnel. If you witness a crime or suspicious activity on campus, immediately call the Department of Public Safety by dialing extension 800 from campus phones or by activating any blue-light emergency phone. Give pertinent details you know, including location, nature of the incident, descriptions of persons involved, etc.
v Directions to Smith College:
- From the NORTH: Take I-91 South to exit 20 (Route 5). Stay on Route 5 until the traffic lights on Route 9. Turn right onto Route 9.
From the SOUTH: Take I-91 North to exit 18. Follow Route 5 North into the center ofNorthampton. Take a left onto Route 9.
- From the lights at the center of Northampton: Follow Route 9 West. At the second set of lights take a Left ontoWest Street (Route 66). Take your first Right ontoGreen Street. Student parking is available on the street as well as in the lots onGreen Street and near the athletic facilities.
