Writing is an important job skill!

Writing across the curriculum a workshop was provided by Barbara Walvoord on 2/10/12. Recent research identifies that many younger students engage in patch writing and inserting chunks into their papers. Getting students and ourselves to write more helps students think more clearly. AACU cites the top ten skills that employees look for in a candidate include the ability to write and communicate well. Several articles encourage students to ‘think like a writer’ and consider three ways to think like a writer which include thinking about the content, the audience and commitment to revision. Using technology to encourage writing has both positive and negative aspects, but worth exploring how to use technology in your classroom to encourage student writing. The Citation Project has information about how to prevent plagiarism and promote proper citations.
